Ready for Overflow

Lately God has been showing me (once again) that life in Him is about perspective. When overwhelmed and anxious about circumstances, it unsettles me. I know scripturally that God does not throw evil at us nor does he desire to harm us.  But in the midst of pain it is hard to not go to a place of why me, or why are bad things still happening even when I am doing all the right things spiritually.   This thinking says that God uses a balance by which to bless or curse us dependent on our behavior.

This is wrong theology.

Jesus tells us in Mark 10:30 that the cost of following Him will bring blessings “a hundred fold…AND along with them persecutions”.   Jesus reminds us that life gives us good and bad and we will not avoid tough times.  When we love him, we will face persecution not only for our beliefs, but from the enemy who does not want us to succeed.  Jesus is preparing us for this reality.  He reminds us that, like a good parent, God desires to give us good things, but wants us to understand bad things will happen when we live in a broken world with broken people (including ourselves).

Instead of viewing the negatives that happen to us as a strike against us, we need to fight back and claim that God is prepping us for something incredible and the season we are in is to ready us for the overflow of His blessings.  We must lean into the discomfort, the pain and the unanswered “whys” and work with Him in preparing instead of fighting Him. To do this, involves praying, fasting and claiming the blessings and promises even when we don’t feel it.

No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him. 1 Cor 2:9

This is the promise of Jesus. He is preparing us. Get ready for the overflow.
